Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

  • My e-visa application was approved, but my date of birth information is wrong. Can I email the Immigration Department and ask them to correct the information for me? How should I deal with this problem? Once you complete the e-visa registration process, you will not be able to edit any information and the Immigration Department will not respond to emails you send. In your case, you will need to re-apply for a new e-visa. You cannot enter Vietnam using an e-visa with any wrong information. For super urgent cases, you should refer to the correct passport information service.
  • I applied for an e-visa through the official Vietnam Immigration website (xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn), but my application is still in "in processing" status after 3 working days. Is there any problem with my application? Typically, the processing time is 4 working days, although there may be exceptions. If you receive an email requesting to update your information, the processing time will be calculated from the date you updated your information. For your situation, you can refer to the push registered e-visa application service, which can help you get the e-visa result faster.
  • I have obtained an electronic visa (E-visa). Do I need to pay any other fees when I arrive at the Vietnam airport? You paid the visa fee when you applied for the e-visa, so you don't have to pay any additional fees when you arrive.
  • What documents do I need to prepare when applying for a Vietnam e-Visa? You need to prepare some documents such as full passport information page (clear, not too bright, including the ICAO lines below), portrait photo (clear, color, cannot be cropped from the passport page, without glasses).
  • Can I apply for an e-visa myself on the Vietnam Government website? You can apply for an e-visa through the official Vietnam Immigration website. The normal processing time is 4 working days (excluding Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays), but in some cases the processing time will be longer than expected.
  • I am holding a British National Overseas (BNO) passport. Can I apply for a Vietnam e-visa? BNO passport holders are not available to apply Vietnam e-visa. Instead, you can apply for a visa approval letter through travel agency, and then use the visa approval letter to get visa on arrival.
  • I hold a Hong Kong Document of Identity for Visa Purposes (HKDI). Can I apply for a Vietnam e-visa on the Vietnam Government website? HKDI holders are not available to apply Vietnam e-visa. You can only apply for a visa approval letter (pdf file) through travel agency, or apply for a loose leaf visa at the Vietnam consulate.
